It has been an excellent opportunity to conduct my secondment for PhD programme in Dr Ian Sudbery’s group in the Department of Molecular Biology and Bioengineering, University of Sheffield. I have had a keen interest to expand my experience in Bioinformatics and this secondment allowed me to learn RNA-Sequencing analysis that went hand in hand with my project. I was able to learn the about different genome alignment tools, performing quality checks and also differential analysis of data. I had a great guide from Ian and Sumeet (ESR10) as they shared a lot of their knowledge in use of R programming, the several options of bioinformatic tools  and all analysis in relation to the sequencing methods used. I left the team feeling very confident in the subject and equipped to perform the analysis myself in the future. It was very useful to also see the working process of Bioinformaticians and the teamwork that goes along in solving programming problems. It was a very curious team who truly enjoyed their work thus I really enjoyed spending my time there.
